In Wales, English Literature is no longer a statutory qualification. Books such as ‘Of Mice and Men’, ‘On the Road’ and ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ offer many alternative messages which contain important social commentary dealing with issues such as racism, escapism and bullying. These books allow people to learn about these issues outside of the news and textbooks – making them a part of these gripping, rich, fictional stories.
This self-initiated brief as part of my Masters challenged me to create a solution which raises awareness of classic literature and help to re-introduce it to readers of all ages.
My design solution is as follows:
Roll up, roll up and welcome to The Librarium Imaginarium! A travelling festival which helps to engage children (and maybe some adults too!) with classic books. Mixing live actors, interactive screens, plays, poetry, games, escape rooms and much more! The whole festival is a fully immersive experience where you will see, smell, hear and touch the worlds these books are set in! Also, when you’re feeling a bit peckish and need a rest from all the excitement, there are plenty of food vans serving book-related grub like Romanian Goulash, deep south cornbread and otherworldly ramen noodles! The Librarium Imaginarium will travel around the country and pop up at various locations such as schools, literary festivals, landmarks and local community fields. Get ready to step in to another world…
